Movie Review : Kick Ass 2

Waaachaaaaaaa~!!!!

Okay, I'm being silly here. Hahahaha. But I think I'm in love with Hit Girl. Besides the fact that I actually adore the actress herself,  Chloe Grace Moretz. She's an amazing actress, and I've watched almost all of the movies that she starred in, back from Big Momma's House 2 (2006) to the recent Movie 43 (2013). Well, the character she was playing, Mindy Macready/Hit Girl is also an amazing character. Who doesn't love a girl who is fun, lovely and yet sarcastically delivers foul-mouthed and crude jokes all the time while still knows how to gracefully kick ass?! But our topic today is not just about Hit Girl, it's about Kick Ass 2 movie. Yeay, another amateur movie review! *Scoffs!*

Synopsis
Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: ‘Kick-Ass 2.’ After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (ChloĆ« Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.

Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes. Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Verdict
So, let's get this baby started. If you have been paying attention in the first movie, Hit Girl was the shining star. Well, that's what I thought at least. But with the release of the second movie, Hit Girl/Mindy Macready has really been given the prime spot on the stage, and spotlight really brings the best out of her. Thrust into the real teenage life after Big Daddy's death, she was struggling between the life of a teenager and a masked vigilante. Trying to live normally like any teenage girls, she went through the mean queen bee phase with the mean girls at school. After finally realizing who/what she needed to be, with the help of Dave, Hit Girl finally hits the scene once more.

Besides her, the movie takes on a different scene with the rest of the costumed vigilantes. Introducing the leagues of ridiculous superheroes; where anyone who dons a costume is a vigilante. Okay, sorry to burst the bubbles but this second movie actually is definitely much more ridiculous from the first one. In the first movie, Kick Ass worked hard to finally be a hero, but that epic-ness is lost in this movie. It seemed like just anyone with a sad background can wear a costume and claims yourself as a hero. Sad excuse for a superhero, if you ask me. Somehow during those scenes, I just can't get the image of Comic-Con out of my head. Watch the movie, you'll understand. Hahaha.

The worse part was the villain itself. Red Mist turning into The Motherfucker. Oh, honey, slap me red nose and call me a clown! Even I wouldn't be as ridiculous as the villain. Not only that he is daffy, the epic fail-ness is ten times more laughable. Sometimes, it makes me wonder that they are actually not trying to make a good movie, but make a farcical slapstick such as Movie 43, or the Onion Movie.

As if the super villain wasn't bad enough, his loyal henchmen, is just as bad. They're not just ri-donk as they are, even their names are fucked up. As Javier from the movie itself would said, 'what is it with you and stereotypes?!' 'It's not stereotypes, it's archetypes'. Whatever! But the names are just odious, and barely make any impact on the movie or what they do. The only villain, and I mean the only one that works is Mother Russia. Now, she's an awesome one.

"50,000 dollars. She's totally worth it!"

Even Scott Pilgrim VS The World is comically better. But, before I divagate into a different direction, let's go back to the movie review. I know it's supposed to be some kind of a mash between comedy and action movie but somehow the themed was lost on me. At one point, the movie sets a very serious tone that deserves recognition like other super hero movies (Dark Knight, Man of Steel, etc.) but then at the point of nanosecond, comedic outburst was popping here and there. For example, the moment before they start attacking the Asain Mobs who were playing poker. Before they begin, it was epic, and awesome, and cool too. But when they entered and began fighting, a ridiculously goofy happy songs was playing on the background. I just don't know how to focus my feelings in this movie.

Despite the predictable plot, and obsolete characters such as the rest of 'The Motherfucker's' henchmen besides Mother Russia, Kick Ass's team of superheroes, you can be rest assured that the movie is entertaining enough. Especially all the action, violence and gore. It makes you want to go 'umph!' 'take that' and 'yeah!'. You can get some pretty good laugh from the lively banters of the characters. And definitely enjoy eating those popcorn with your friends (definitely not a family-friendly flick) as the movie try its best to give you a kick out of its pure simplicity and comic relief. Rating : 6/10

p/s: I enjoy stupid movies sometimes, so, Kick Ass 2 is an okay movie for me. Just don't blame me if you feel like you've wasted time watching this.
